    Carmelia Ward

    MSW, LCSWA

    Staff Therapist

Carmelia graduated from North Carolina Central University with her Master of Social Work. She joins our team with experience as an Outpatient Therapist and a Care Management, Discharge Planner. Carmelia identifies herself as a passionate humanistic therapist who believes in the transformative power of self-discovery and personal empowerment. With a warm and empathetic approach, Carmelia has developed a problem-focused niche, guiding clients of all ages—children, adolescents, and adults—towards greater self-understanding and resilience. Drawing from her experience working with diverse age groups, Carmelia persists in helping clients navigate challenges such as depression, anxiety, and life's uncertainties. She is dedicated to fostering personal growth, establishing strong self-concepts, and equipping clients with effective coping skills for stress management and emotional regulation.

The idea of creating change inspired Carmelia to pursue a career in counseling. After recognizing the significance of personal change, she developed a strong inclination to support others in their mental health journeys. Carmelia's journey in therapy is guided by her deep-rooted belief that everyone possesses the ability to heal themselves. Through active listening and encouraging honest introspection, she empowers her clients to improve their self-esteem and cultivate a profound sense of self-worth. It brings Carmelia joy to help clients understand and cope with thoughts, feelings and behaviors while encouraging personal development. Carmelia is not just a therapist but also a lifelong learner and compassionate advocate for her clients' well-being, encouraging them to explore their interests, recognize their strengths, and set meaningful goals. She infuses every session with a spirit of grace and hope for the future, empowering her clients to embrace their journeys of healing and personal growth.

Carmelia likes creative writing/journaling, spending time in nature, capturing the beauty of nature through photography, listening to audiobooks, dancing, listening to music, learning, exploring new things and cherishing moments with her loved ones.

Carmelia was drawn to A Little Counseling’s emphasis on imperfection, highlighting that individuals don’t need “to be perfect” they just have “to be real.” “A vast majority of us expect our healing journey to be perfect and at ALC, the clinicians reassure, motivate, and encourage clients to accept their flaws, imperfections, past traumas, and experiences. These are the things that make each person unique.” Carmelia is excited to help clients at ALC as they embark on their mental health journey, embracing all the challenges and opportunities that may arise along the way.
